The OECD is in a process of updating the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises Guidelines and is seeking public input on its latest draft of targeted updates. The MVO Platform submitted a contribution to this second public consultation.

In the written submission we refer to the 2021 position paper on the revision of the Guidelines, which provides our analysis of concerning gaps. The MVO Platform also refers to the specific recent commitments of the Dutch government on improving the position of climate, human rights defenders change and animal welfare in the Guidelines. These issues (and many other) still need attention in the consultation draft.

The MVO Platform supports the development of a Dutch Bill on mandatory human rights due diligence which has the Guidelines at its heart. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the Guidelines reflect the latest and highest standards on various RBC themes, making clear to all stakeholders what exactly is expected of companies, and improving the grounds on which states can help facilitate access to justice.

The MVO Platform also took part in the previous public consultation.
